Artists Haas and Hahn have used the power of art to dramatically transform Santa Marta, one of Rio de Janeiro’s notorious shanty towns, or favelas as they’re called there. The duo worked along side a team of locals to paint the houses and buildings a rainbow of colors. The local workers, who received a paycheck and instruction from Haas and Hahn, turned their down-and-out community into a work of art of epic proportions. Take a look at the artists’ website, Favela Painting, to learn more about this and other favela painting projects.
