Hand Cut Maps

I love maps. I used to spend hours looking at the world atlas and dreaming up all the trips I would go on when I grew up. Whether or not you’re a map lover, though, I’m sure you’ll enjoy these hand cut maps by Karen O’Leary. She takes maps and painstakingly cuts away the land leaving the “paths, nodes, circles, boulevards, parks and streets” that give a city its character. Here are a few examples of Karen’s work from her Etsy store.

I just came across your blog and I love what you share here! I find so much of what you post fascinating, and Karen O’Leary’s hand cut maps are particularly inspiring. I love maps, too, and her work adds a new perspective to how we perceive and document the world around us. I hope you are well and enjoying life in New York. Keep up the good blog!
