I just can’t resist a good screen printed poster. St. Paul, Minnesota art duo johnny&stacie have created some really great prints that I’m itching to buy. Check out their Etsy store for more. I would also recommend looking at their project on Flickr called A Poster Everyday.
I hate to admit it, but winter is quickly approaching for all of us northern hemisphere folks. Winter is no excuse to abandon funky fashion, though. This pencil scarf by ToxicLove will keep you warm and fashionably quirky.
Today is Thanksgiving in the U.S., so that means I, like all Americans, will spend the day being as gluttonous and self-indulgent as possible. And in honor of this decadent holiday here is an advertisement for Camel cigarettes that was in Life magazine in 1936. The ad argues that smoking cigarettes improves digestion and Camel recommends smoking at least one cigarette between each course of one’s Thanksgiving dinner “for digestion’s sake”. I wonder if this didn’t catch on because too many people were ashing in the gravy boat? Whatever the reason may be, I’d like to wish everyone a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
Click on the image to see it full size. The entire text from the advertisement is below, too.
As children, we were strongly encouraged by our parents not to draw on things like the living room wall or dad’s new sports car. But when you grow up, the rules change and the world is your oyster. Mike Niemann gave in to that age-old desire to draw on expensive things when he decided to doodle on his Mazada Miata with a Sharpie marker. 22 days and $100 worth of Sharpies later, his creation was complete.
I’m really loving this desk T-shirt from Sympathy for the Unusual designed by the talented Robert Samuel Hanson. Kinda reminds me of my desk as a kid…
Russian artist Irina Vinnik recently posted a sneak peak inside her sketchbook on her Behance profile and I have to say I’m really taken with it. Her incredibly detailed pen and ink drawings are really cool.
Looks like a regular cactus, right? Look closer. These cacti sculptures by Brian Jewett are actually made of garden hoses and zip ties. They’re visually stunning works of art in the right while also serving as an interesting commentary on water consumption and waste.
Philatelists and Anglophiles rejoice! Rugs that look like UK postage stamps from Stamp Rugs are here! Each rug has the Queen’s head embossed in it, has scalloped edges and is made from New Zealand wool. Snail mail just got a lot cooler.
