I came across these great paper cut bird sculptures by Diana Beltran Herrera the other day on Colossal and was very impressed.

The Kulma shelf, designed by Martina Carpelan and Hong Ngo, is a clever little piece of minimal decor, the beauty of which is in its simplicity. The L-shaped oak shelf is meant to be mounted in a corner of a room. But the cool part is that it’s interchangeable: it can wrap around an outward-facing corner or it can be nestled into an inward-facing one. Neat idea, huh?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  In addition to devouring ridiculous amounts of turkey, stuffing and gravy today, I spent some time playing around with two new fonts from The Lost Type Co-Op: Lavanderia and Carton. So I came up with this Thanksgiving-inspired design in honor of all the tasty, tasty gravy I ate.

Coni Della Vedova’s playful typographic screen prints really intrigued me. Her clever designs are simple but iconic, with a humorous twist. My personal favorite is a tie between AEI Love U and We Are a Team.

“Art supplies”.

Are you excited yet? Because hearing those 2 words psychs me up like a kid in a candy store. I could spend hours poring over sketchbooks, markers, paints, pencils and those bendy wooden guys that were supposed to teach you about anatomy. But seriously, my 3 favorite things in art supply stores are pens, rulers and hobby knifes (why hobby knives? I really have no clue. I just love them.)

I came across the PHX-1 on Kickstarter last night and I instantly knew that this little baby was made specifically for me. The exquisite, stainless steel artists tool is both houses pen cartridge refills on one end (Hi-Tec-C and Signo DX refills) and a hobby knife on the other, with threaded caps on either end (Wow, an X-acto with a decent cap for once!). And it comes in sustainable bamboo case that incorporates a metal designer’s ruler as the lid.

Los Angeles-based electrician and artist Devin Ward breathes new life into eclectic, vintage radios, making them compatible with their modern day descendants: MP3 plays and iPhones.

He removes all of the outdated circuitry, wiring and speakers from the radios and replaces them with high quality, modern components, as well an 1/8th” audio input jack so an iPhone can connected to it. I love to see when people rescue gadgetry of yesteryear and bridge the gap between “modern” and “vintage” so elegantly.

The Beaker Lab Light, made by Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co., is made from repurposed chemistry lab stands and beakers, adding a playful twist to any room (even if you’re not a chemist!). I’ve always been fascinated by chemistry equipment (actual chemistry, on the other hand, continues to baffle me), so I won’t lie…I desperately want this lamp!

I can guarantee you that this sleeping bag made by B Fiber and Craft Emporium is going to be coolest pizza-shaped sleeping bag you’ll see today. In fact, I’d be willing to bet 2 slices of pepperoni on it.
