It’s Independence Day weekend here in the U.S., which means lots of people will be out enjoying the sun. Let this human tanning illustration by Janine Rewell be a friendly reminder to wear sunscreen! And make sure you don’t miss a spot.

I really enjoy Luke Bott’s illustrations, so when I saw the work he did in response to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico I decided it was time to feature Luke on here. Take a look at his portfolio to see more of his great work!

I really like the work of London-based illustrator Paul Thurlby. Here are a few illustrations of the English soccer team that Paul did a few years ago.

I’m a big fan of artwork made out of cut paper. The meticulous cutting, the dimensional quality created by layers of paper, the simplicity of materials. I just love it. So I’m naturally drawn to the work of London-based illustrator Owen Gildersleeve. Here’s a great illustration he did for Money magazine about cutting taxes.

Here are some cool pieces of personal work from the portfolio of Argentinean illustrator Christian Montenegro.

The most recent addition to my list of favorite illustrators is Mutt Ink. Here’s a great illustration they did that will appear in NPR’s 2011 calendar. Sometimes a highly limited color palette just doesn’t work, but in this case it’s a roaring success.

Mikey Burton is a truly versatile designer. His identity and logo work is clean and simple, with a bit of vintage flavor that always makes me smile. But my absolute favorite pieces in his portfolio are his gig posters. If I ever become a famous musician, I hope Mikey Burton designs my posters.

Developing film is a pretty foreign concept to most people these days. I found this Pako photo/negative envelope that came from a developer in Minneapolis in the 1960′s and thought I’d share it. I love the little illustration and the way that the tape adds an interesting element to the composition of this image. If you want to see other developing envelopes, check out this Photo Developing Envelopes flickr group.
