When was the last time you picked up a legal document and thought to yourself, “Wow, that’s good typography”? If your answer is anything other than “Never” I would be happily surprised. But hopefully that will change with the help of a website by typographer-turned-lawyer Matthew Butterick. His website, Typography For Lawyers, is a practical guide to typography with plenty of examples outlining why lawyers need to brush up on their typography skills.
When I look at Greg Schmigel’s website, Just What I See, this saying comes to mind: “The best camera is the one that’s with you”. Greg takes wonderful photos on the streets of NYC only with his iPhone. The world of mobile phone photography has advanced so much, due in no small part to the plethora of photo apps for the iPhone. Great photos aren’t just the result of fancy SLR cameras and elaborate lighting (although that can sometimes make a mediocre photo look acceptable), but rather it’s about composition and capturing that perfect moment in time.
The website A Collection A Day turns the mundane into art on a daily basis. Each day, a new collection of objects is arranged and photographed. Everyday items take on new life through the power of repetition, pattern and meticulous organization. This collection of bread bag ties was posted a few weeks ago and is one of my favorites.
If you ever find yourself looking at photos in interior design magazines and wondering what kind of person actually lives in these über-stylish homes, then I have the website for you. Unhappy Hipsters examines these photos and adds some brief, hilarious commentary to each one.
Here’s an interesting way to design an online clothing store. Although, I will admit, after being at this site for a while I got a little creeped out by the Robert Pattinson-esque model that was staring back at me. Check out Patrik Ervell.
